When choosing heat shrink cable accessories, the conductor material is a key factor to consider. Copper conductors are easy to work with. On the one hand, standard heat shrink tubes offer great insulation and protect against oxidation after a secure connection is made.
On the other hand, aluminum conductors, favored for their light weight, come with notable challenges. They quickly form a protective oxide layer but are very prone to galvanic corrosion when touching different metals. For aluminum, the selection process is more critical.
The tube must create a perfect, hermetic seal to contain the gel and permanently lock it requires a meticulous approach: Apply an antioxidant compound to the connection before crimping to prevent oxidation, then use a high-quality heat shrink tube to keep moisture out and ensure long-term protection and performance.
